Kenya’s revenue authority has equipped 350 customs and border control officers with body-worn cameras in a bid to tackle corruption and improve accountability at the country’s entry points.

The authority said on Tuesday that the cameras would serve as a deterrent against misconduct and help resolve disputes faster through recorded evidence.

The rollout follows reports of staff bribery and collusion schemes blamed for enabling tax evasion at border posts and ports of entry, including Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, one of Africa’s busiest transport hubs.

The authority said the devices, which feature real-time GPS tracking, secure recording and live streaming capabilities, would raise professional standards among officers.

“We are committed to fairness. We are committed to integrity. And we are willing to be held accountable for it,” the authority said in a statement.
