Nigerian Police Charges Driver in Fatal Anthony Joshua Crash
Nigerian police have charged the driver involved in the road accident that injured former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and killed two people, authorities said on Friday.
Police said the driver appeared before a magistrate’s court in Ogun State on charges including dangerous driving causing death, reckless driving and driving without due care and attention following the crash on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
Media Room Africa reported that the accident occurred on December 29 when a Lexus vehicle carrying Joshua collided with a stationary truck along the highway. Two passengers died at the scene, while Joshua and the driver sustained injuries.
Authorities said the driver was granted bail but remains in custody pending the fulfilment of bail conditions. The case has been adjourned to January 20 for further hearing.
Joshua, who was treated for minor injuries, has since been discharged from the hospital. Nigerian authorities said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
