Trump Orders U.S. Commanders to Draft Plan for Possible Greenland Invasion

United States President Donald Trump

United States President Donald Trump has instructed military planners to prepare options for a potential invasion of Greenland, according to foreign media reports citing unnamed sources.

The directive, which emerged from discussions among senior U.S. officials, calls for special forces and joint command units to develop a concept that would outline how American troops might seize control of the strategically located Arctic territory. Critics of the idea in U.S. military leadership are reported to have raised concerns about legality, logistics and the absence of backing from the U.S. Congress.

Trump reiterated his interest in Greenland at a recent White House event, asserting that the United States must act before other global powers, such as Russia or China, establish a stronger foothold on the island. “We are going to do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not,” Trump said, according to the published account, adding that he preferred “the easy way” but was ready to pursue “the hard way” if necessary.

Political leaders in Greenland responded with defiance to the reported plans, emphasising their desire to maintain autonomy and resist external takeover efforts. “We do not want to be Americans, we do not want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders,” one Greenlandic political figure said.

The reported plan has drawn criticism from European capitals, with some officials warning that such a move could strain alliances and raise questions about respect for sovereignty under international law.
