28 Killed In Tanzania Bus And Truck Collision
At least 28 people were killed after a passenger bus collided with a timber truck and caught fire in eastern Tanzania early on Friday, a fire and rescue official said.
The crash occurred at Mkambarani on the Morogoro-Dar es Salaam highway as the bus travelled from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya, said Joseph Mwasabeja, acting commander of the Morogoro regional fire and rescue force.
Mwasabeja said the truck was travelling from Iringa towards Dar es Salaam and was attempting to overtake other vehicles when it collided with the bus.
The bus was destroyed by fire. The number of injured people was not immediately known, although some had been taken to hospital, he said.
Scholastica Ndunga, a spokeswoman for Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital, said the facility would release figures later for the dead and injured brought there.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged road users to follow traffic safety rules more strictly.
The crash comes after a collision between two buses in Tanzania’s northern Kilimanjaro region in June 2025 killed at least 37 people. Both vehicles caught fire.
