AFCON 2025: Last 16 Confirmed as Group Stage Concludes
The group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has concluded, confirming the 16 teams that will advance to the knockout phase of the tournament.
Group winners and runners-up across the six groups progressed alongside the four best third-placed teams, in line with competition regulations. Defending champions Senegal, Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, and hosts Côte d’Ivoire are among the teams through to the round of 16.
Several matches in the final group round were decided by narrow margins, reflecting the competitive nature of the tournament. Tactical discipline and defensive organisation featured prominently, with multiple teams securing qualification by single-goal differences.
The round of 16 fixtures are scheduled to begin on Saturday, 3 January 2026, with winners advancing to the quarter-finals. Tournament officials say match venues and kick-off times will be communicated to participating teams and broadcasters.
