Cape Town police offer reward for shooting information

South African police have offered a 100,000 rand ($6,185) reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects linked to three separate shootings that killed 11 people across the Cape Town metropolitan area on Saturday evening.

Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Sizakhele Dyantyi, announced the reward as investigations continued into the attacks, whose motive remains unclear. No arrests have been made.

Police said three men aged 25, 31, and 35 were killed in a shooting in Lingelethu West, Khayelitsha. In a second attack on Winnie Mandela Street in the KwaLanga area of Langa, four men and one woman were killed. A third shooting in the Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu left two men and one woman dead, while two other people were injured.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating all three incidents and has deployed additional officers to the affected communities and other areas considered high-risk. Authorities have appealed to residents to provide information that could help identify those responsible.

Dyantyi said gang violence and the spread of illegal firearms remained major security challenges in the Western Cape. In March, President Cyril Ramaphosa authorised the deployment of 2,200 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) personnel to support police operations in high-risk areas amid rising gang-related violence. The deployment has since been extended.
