Congo Succumbs to Colombia
Congolese national team at the FIFA World Cup 2026, in an effort to repeat their first match goalless draw against Portugal, was not successful in their second match against Colombia.
The South American side was the better side of the night, though their efforts did not pay off in the 76th minute and guaranteed Colombia’s qualification to the next round.
Though the Colombians created enough chances to convincingly beat the Congolese, they were denied goals by the goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi.
All efforts but the DRC to come back were thwarted by the Colombian defence until the final whistle. With their second consecutive win, they have qualified for the round of 32.
In the other group K game, Portugal defeated Uzbekistan 5-0. With the results, the Asian side have not only lost their first two matches, but lost any chance of advancing beyond the first round. Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portugal vs. Uzbekistan match turned out to be a one-sided match. As early as the 6th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo opened scores, thereby becoming the first player to score in six world cups. Ronaldo’s first World Cup goal came in 2006. Since then, he had scored in every other World Cup. His brace helped rekindle the unending debate between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s fans as the argument continues to rage who is the batter player between the two. Not done with making history, he scored his second goal and third for Portugal six minutes before halftime.
The final group matches will be between Portugal vs. Colombia and Congo vs. Uzbekistan.
