EgyptAir Resumes Direct Flights to Sudan

EgyptAir has resumed direct flights between Cairo and Sudan after a suspension of more than one year, with its first flight landing at Port Sudan International Airport on Wednesday.

The Sudan Airports Company said the inaugural flight arrived safely, restoring the route that had been suspended since May 2025 because of the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Airport authorities said the move would strengthen air connectivity between Sudan and Egypt, improve operations at Port Sudan International Airport, and provide travellers with additional transport options.

With the return of EgyptAir, Port Sudan International Airport is now served by five international airlines, alongside Turkish Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Qatar Airways, and SalamAir of Oman. Port Sudan has served as Sudan’s main international aviation gateway since fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) disrupted operations at Khartoum International Airport.

The conflict, which began in April 2023 over disagreements on integrating the RSF into the national military, has triggered one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises. United Nations estimates indicate that tens of thousands of people have been killed and about 13 million displaced. It remains unclear whether additional routes or flight frequencies will be introduced following the resumption of services.
