India, Seychelles Sign 19 Cooperation Agreements

India and Seychelles have signed 19 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to expand cooperation in areas including defence, maritime security, agriculture, healthcare and education.

The agreements were concluded on Sunday after bilateral talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at the State House in Victoria. Modi is on a three-day state visit to Seychelles and is expected to attend the country’s golden jubilee independence celebrations on Monday.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing the interests of the Global South.

Speaking after the meeting, Modi said India and Seychelles share a common vision of developing the Indian Ocean into an “Ocean of Opportunity.” He said both countries would continue working together to promote security, sustainability and prosperity in the region while exploring new business opportunities and improving connectivity.

President Herminie described maritime security as a central pillar of relations between the two countries and said development cooperation remains a key aspect of the partnership.

He added that discussions also covered India’s USD 175 million special economic assistance package for Seychelles, which is intended to support the country’s development priorities.

The agreements further strengthen cooperation between India and Seychelles across several sectors. Details of the implementation timeline for the signed agreements have not yet been announced.
