Macron Acknowledges Declining French Impacts in Africa

French President Emmanuel Macron has acknowledged France’s declining impact in parts of Africa amid changing political and economic relations across the continent.

Speaking during the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Macron said France must rebuild partnerships with African countries based on mutual respect, economic cooperation and transparency.

His remarks come as several African countries revise their diplomatic and military ties with France following years of criticism over Paris’ influence in the region.

In recent years, countries including Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have reduced military cooperation with France while strengthening ties with other global powers.

Macron said Africa remains a key partner for France, particularly in trade, technology, security cooperation and climate action.

Political analysts say France is facing increasing competition for influence in Africa as governments seek more independent foreign policies and diversified international cooperation.
