Hosts Morocco finished top of Group A at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after being held to a goalless draw by Senegal in Rabat on Monday.

The draw took Morocco to seven points, enough to finish ahead of Algeria, who beat Kenya 2-0 in the group’s other match to secure second place and qualification for the quarter-finals. Senegal ended third with four points, while Kenya finished bottom without a point.

Morocco began their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Kenya, followed by a 1-0 win against Algeria. The Atlas Lionesses completed the group stage unbeaten, scoring five goals and conceding none.

The defining moment of the final match came in the 69th minute when Morocco were awarded a penalty. Yasmin Mrabet stepped up, but Senegal goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye saved the spot-kick. After the penalty was ordered to be retaken, Ndiaye saved Mrabet’s second attempt, producing one of the tournament’s standout moments.

Morocco coach Jorge Vilda introduced Fatima Tagnaout and Najat Badri in search of a breakthrough, but Senegal’s defence held firm.

Morocco will face the runner-up from Group B in the quarter-finals. Algeria will meet the Group B winners. The quarter-finals are scheduled for August 8 and 9.
