Nigeria, Indonesia move to deepen ties in oil, agriculture, security

Nigeria and Indonesia are gearing up to boost their bilateral ties, focusing on key areas like oil and gas, energy, agriculture, critical minerals, education, and maritime security.

This development came after a meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Arief Havas Oegroseno, along with his delegation, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement shared on her official X handle, Odumegwu-Ojukwu said the meeting provided an opportunity for both countries to renew their longstanding relationship.

“Pleased to receive in audience the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Ambassador Arief Havas Oegroseno and his delegation at our Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“This was an opportunity to renew the longstanding cordial relations between our two countries.

We talked about boosting cooperation in areas like oil and gas, energy security, critical minerals, agriculture, manufacturing, technical partnerships, educational exchanges, counter-terrorism, de-radicalisation, intelligence sharing, and maritime security.

We also reaffirmed the commitment of our two nations, to deepening our bilateral relations, promoting understanding and enhancing collaboration on issues of global significance at multilateral levels.”

The meeting marks a fresh effort by Nigeria and Indonesia to strengthen ties beyond diplomacy, as both nations look into opportunities in key areas like the economy, security, and development.
