Nigeria Obi to Run for Presidency Again
Peter Obi has confirmed that he will contest for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, ending weeks of speculation over his political future following divisions within the opposition group.
The former Anambra State governor made the announcement during a meeting with supporters and political associates, where he said he remained committed to offering the Nigerians an alternative leadership platform.
Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, said his focus would remain on governance, economic reforms and tackling insecurity across the country.
His declaration comes after disagreements within opposition ranks over plans to build a united front against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
While some opposition leaders have pushed for a broad coalition ahead of 2027, Obi indicated that his political direction would be guided by the interests of his supporters and party stakeholders.
The announcement is expected to reshape discussions within Nigeria’s opposition camp as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the next election.
Obi remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition figures, particularly among the young voters and urban professionals who backed his 2023 campaign.
