Nigerian Forces Thwart Terror Attack, Rescue Hostages

Nigerian forces have thwarted a night-time terrorist attack on a military base in Zamfara State, killing several attackers and rescuing nine civilians who were abducted during the assault, the military has said.

The attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday at the Forward Operating Base in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. According to the military, troops under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA detected suspicious movement as armed men attempted to overrun the facility under the cover of darkness.

Soldiers responded with coordinated firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat before reinforcements arrived to pursue them. During the follow-up operation, troops intercepted the fleeing gunmen and successfully rescued nine kidnapped civilians, who were recovered unharmed.

Military authorities said the operation inflicted heavy losses on the attackers, although they did not disclose the number of casualties. Security forces also recovered items abandoned by the fleeing assailants as clearance operations continued in the surrounding area.

The military dismissed reports circulating on social media that six security personnel had been killed during the attack. It clarified that one Nigerian Army officer and one police officer lost their lives while defending the base.

Military officials described the failed assault as another operational setback for armed groups active in northwestern Nigeria, where security forces continue offensive operations against terrorists, bandits and kidnappers responsible for recurring attacks on communities, highways and security installations.
