Ruto, AFRICOM Chief Discuss Regional Security

Kenyan President William Ruto has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening regional security through closer cooperation with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) during talks with its commander, General Dagvin Anderson, in Nairobi.

According to the Kenyan presidency, the meeting focused on addressing evolving security threats across the Horn of Africa, including terrorism, transnational crime and humanitarian challenges affecting the region. The discussions also explored ways to deepen collaboration in support of peace and stability.

Ruto said Kenya would continue working closely with AFRICOM and other international partners to improve regional security and strengthen efforts to counter violent extremist groups. He noted that enhanced cooperation remains essential as countries across the region confront increasingly complex cross-border threats that require coordinated responses.

Kenya has remained a key contributor to regional peace and security initiatives, including counterterrorism operations and support for stabilisation efforts in neighbouring Somalia. The meeting formed part of Nairobi’s broader engagement with strategic partners to boost intelligence sharing, military cooperation and humanitarian response capabilities.

General Anderson’s visit underscores continued United States engagement with African governments on security matters as Washington seeks to strengthen partnerships aimed at combating terrorism, organised crime and other emerging threats while promoting long-term regional stability.

The talks come amid persistent security challenges across the Horn of Africa, where governments continue to contend with armed groups, cross-border criminal networks and humanitarian pressures linked to conflict and instability.
