Sahel States bid to host 2032 AFCON

Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso have submitted a joint bid to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations, the Malian Football Federation confirmed.

The three countries, led by military governments and members of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), met with Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe in New York on Saturday to present their expression of interest. CAF has officially acknowledged the bid.

Mali last hosted the tournament in 2002, while Burkina Faso hosted in 1998. Niger has never hosted the biennial competition.

Mali has five CAF-approved stadiums. Burkina Faso secured CAF approval for the main stadium in Ouagadougou in 2025. Niger is working to upgrade the General Seyni Kountche Stadium in Niamey, which has been barred from hosting international matches since 2022.

The Malian Football Federation said the joint proposal would be built around “solidarity, regional integration and sustainable development of African football.”

The next AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

CAF has opened bidding for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the tournament. No other bids for 2032 have been officially announced.
