Senegal Suffers Second defeat, Risk Early Exit
The Senegalese national team and current AFCON Champion, the Terenga Lions, suffered a second defeat in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America (Canada, Mexico and the USA).
The 3-2 defeat to Norway left the West Africa side hanging in the balance and a more likely first round exit.
The Scandinavian side came into the game with 3 points from a comprehensive 4-1 beating of Iraq in their first match, while Senegal hoped to redeem themselves after a 3-1 first game loss to the French national team, the Les Blues.
The Senegalese side looked strong in the first half and had a chance of getting into half time on level with the Scandinavians. However, Kalidou Koulibaly’s error gifted the Norwegians with a goal, as Pedersen, who took the ball past Edouard Mendy in goal for the Terenga Lions.
Erling Haaland scored twice in the second half to bring his total goal in this world cup to four, one short of the five for Lionel Messi of Argentina.
Sarr got a goal for Senegal in-between Haalands two goals to make a three goals thriller within 10 minutes. Sarr again got a consolation for Senegal in the stoppage time. The consolation goal was just not enough to earn a point.
However, with the Iraqi abysmal outing against Norway and France, the West African side would hope to get the maximum points against them in their last group match on Friday, while France and Norway would fight it out to determine who leads the group, as both teams are already through to the round of 32.
