Ten Nigerian Police Officers Killed In Kebbi Attack
Ten Nigerian policemen have been killed in a gun battle with armed attackers in Kebbi State, authorities said on Tuesday, following a clash in a remote part of northern Nigeria.
The confrontation took place on Monday in Sakaba Local Government Area, according to police spokesperson Bashir Usman. In a statement, Usman said the exchange of gunfire also left two civilians dead and 17 suspected attackers killed during the operation.
Authorities have not identified the armed group involved in the attack, and investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. Police have also not disclosed what triggered the gun battle or whether any suspects were arrested after the operation.
The incident is the latest in a series of security challenges affecting parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to carry out attacks on security personnel and civilians. Remote communities in several northern states have faced recurring violence linked to banditry, militant activity and other organised armed groups, prompting repeated security operations by government forces.
Officials have not released the identities of the slain officers or the civilians who died during the confrontation. It also remains unclear whether security personnel recovered weapons or other materials from the attackers during the operation.
The authorities have said investigations will continue as security agencies seek to determine the identities of those responsible and assess the circumstances that led to the deadly clash in Sakaba.
