US Delivers Military Equipment To Nigeria
The United States has delivered a fresh consignment of military equipment to Nigeria under the Foreign Military Sales arrangement between Washington and Abuja.
The equipment was transported aboard a US Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircraft and arrived in Nigeria over the weekend.
The US Africa Command disclosed the delivery on Thursday through its official X account, describing it as another sign of the expanding security partnership between the United States and Nigeria.
AFRICOM said the consignment was intended to deepen defence cooperation between the two countries and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to respond to terrorism and other security threats.
The delivery comes as Nigeria continues to battle terrorist and insurgent groups and seeks greater international support for its counter-terrorism operations.
AFRICOM did not disclose details of the equipment delivered or its value.
The delivery follows recent efforts by Washington and Abuja to strengthen security cooperation. The United States has also deployed special forces to Nigeria for joint operations.
The relationship between the two countries came under strain after US President Donald Trump designated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern and accused the Nigerian government of condoning killings. Nigeria subsequently sent a high-powered delegation to Washington, while an American delegation visited Nigeria as both sides sought to defuse tensions.
The specific equipment delivered in the latest consignment has not been disclosed.
