27 Killed In South Kordofan Attacks

At least 27 people, including four children, have been killed in attacks by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in two areas of Sudan’s South Kordofan state, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.

The medical group said the attacks also forced large numbers of civilians to flee towards Abu Hitan and Kadugli, adding to the displacement caused by the wider conflict.

The group accused the SPLM-N, which is allied with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), of targeting civilians along ethnic lines and warned that continued violence could turn the conflict in South Kordofan into a wider ethnic confrontation.

It described attacks on unarmed civilians as a violation of international humanitarian law and called on rights organisations and the international community to pressure the SPLM-N to end the violence.

The Sudan Doctors Network also urged authorities and humanitarian organisations to ensure aid reaches affected communities without obstruction.

The SPLM-N did not immediately respond to the allegations.

South Kordofan, North Kordofan, and West Kordofan have experienced heavy fighting since October between the Sudanese army and forces aligned with the RSF and SPLM-N.

Sudan has been at war since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the army and the RSF. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced about 13 million, according to UN and international estimates.
