Burkina Faso Launches Drive for National Reforestation
Burkina Faso has launched a nationwide tree-planting campaign aimed at tackling desertification and restoring degraded land across the nation.
The initiative, backed by government representatives, local communities and environmental groups, seeks to increase forest cover in areas affected by climate change and land degradation.
Officials said millions of trees would be planted during the campaign, with schools, community organisations and public institutions encouraged to take part.
The programme forms part of enhanced efforts to protect agricultural land and improve environmental sustainability in a country where many communities depend on farming and livestock.
Environmental experts have warned that advancing desert conditions and irregular rainfall patterns continue to threaten food production across the Sahel region.
Authorities said monitoring teams would be deployed to ensure newly planted trees are protected and maintained after the planting season.
The campaign also supports regional initiatives aimed at restoring ecosystems and reducing the impact of climate-related challenges across West Africa.
