Côte d’Ivoire Reached First World Cup Knockout Stage

Côte d’Ivoire has reached the FIFA World Cup knockout stage for the first time after beating Curaçao 2-0 in its final Group E match.

Nicolas Pépé scored in each half to secure the win for the Ivorians in Philadelphia.

The result moved Côte d’Ivoire into the Round of 32 after four appearances at the tournament.

Côte d’Ivoire opened its campaign with a win over Ecuador before losing to Germany in its second group match.

Reuters reported that the team finished second in Group E after the victory over Curaçao.

Curaçao needed a win to keep alive its chance of becoming the smallest nation to advance from the World Cup group stage.

Côte d’Ivoire is expected to face the runner-up from Group I, either France or Norway, on June 30.

The opponent will be confirmed after Group I concludes.
