Ethiopia Begins Smart City Construction

 Ethiopia Begins Smart City Construction

The Ethiopian government has commenced construction of a new industrial smart city as part of efforts to expand manufacturing capacity and attract investment into the country’s industrial sector.

The project was launched by government officials and is expected to bring together industrial facilities, residential districts and digital infrastructure within a single development zone. Authorities said the initiative forms part of Ethiopia’s long-term strategy to increase industrial output and strengthen the economic growth of the country.

According to officials overseeing the project, the smart city will provide space for manufacturing companies, technology firms and logistics operators. The development is also expected to create employment opportunities and support local businesses during both the construction and operational phases.

Ethiopia has invested heavily in industrial parks and infrastructural projects over the past decade as it seeks to position itself as a manufacturing ground in East Africa. The government has identified industrialisation as a key component of its economic development agenda.

Construction work has already begun on critical infrastructure, including road networks, utilities and service facilities required for the project.

The authorities have not announced the total cost of the project or provided a timeline for its completion.
