Ghana Black Stars Frustrate England Three Lions
Black Stars Frustrates England’s Three Lions.
The Black Stars of Ghana, despite being outplayed by the Three Lions of England, fought the English side to a stand still as both sides ended their second 2026 World Cup match without finding the back of the net.
Both sides came into the match with three points from their first games, as Ghana edged past Panama 1-0, while England defeated fellow Europeans Croatia 4-2. However, the star-studded English side was a clear favourite to carry the day, but found a brick wall in the well organised defence of the West African side.
With 72% ball possession, 18 shots at goal, against the black Stars 28% possession and 2 shots at goal, the Three Lions were definitely the most enterprising side of the night. However, the defensive wall of the Africans proved impregnable.
Efforts from Declan Rice went over the bar, as his free-kick went wide, while Harry Kane’s best effort of the night was blocked by Benjamin Asare in goal for Ghana.
A few minutes before full time, Bukayo Saka came close to giving England a winner but was denied by Benjamin Asare. After Saka’s effort came a header from Nico O’Reilly, but this time, he was denied by the woodwork.
The other game in the group saw Croatia beating Panama 1-0, thereby keeping qualification hope alive and open for the three teams until the last games, which is England vs. Panama and Croatia vs. Ghana.
