A Nigerian court has sentenced the mother and sister of a killed terrorist leader to 20 years in prison for aiding his activities, the Department of State Security said. Justice Hauwa Yilwa of the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Safiya Salihu and Halima Abdullahi on three of five terrorism charges. They were acquitted on two counts related to receiving money from Battujo and using proceeds for pilgrimage. The women were found guilty of aiding and abetting the activities of Battujo, also known as Kachalla, by passing information through telephone conversations. Salihu also pleaded guilty to concealing information about her son’s terrorism activities. Abdullahi pleaded guilty to failing to report that her brother had illegally acquired firearms. Battujo was killed by Nigerian security forces on June 10, 2026. The court sentenced the women to 20 years on each count, but ordered the sentences to run concurrently. They will serve 20 years in prison, followed by rehabilitation. The prosecution was brought by the Department of State Security.
