Nigerian Drug Agency Discovers in Iron-Safe

The Nigerian Agency for Fighting Against Illicit Drugs, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said its operatives have discovered cocaine and heroin concealed in fireproof iron safe boxes in the city of Port Harcourt following a raid on a notorious drug trafficking area in the city.

The Agency Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a post he shared on X on Sunday, 30th August.

The Director, Babafemi, said his Agency made the discovery during a raid in the Abuja area of Port Harcourt. According to him, suspected drug dealers were using the iron safe boxes meant to store valuables to conceal high-value illicit drugs.

“Iron safe boxes are meant to preserve money, documents, and jewellery against fire and theft, but NDLEA officers have discovered during a raid at the notorious Abuja area of Port Harcourt that drug dealers now stash high-value illicit drugs such as cocaine and heroin in the same fireproof iron boxes,” Babafemi said.

In recent times, the NDLEA has recorded success in the fight against drug trafficking, through arrests made of high-profile drug barons who use Nigeria as a transit route for drugs to Europe and Asia. One of such arrests earlier this August was Michael Afolabi Kazeem, who was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos, as he tried to leave the country. Before his arrest, his contact at a courier company in Lagos had been arrested for his involvement in the illicit drug deal.
