Heavy fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has forced thousands of civilians to flee parts of Darfur as clashes continue across western Sudan.
Residents said intense gunfire and shelling were heard in several communities as both sides battled for control of strategic areas in the region.
Humanitarian organisations reported that families were leaving their homes in large numbers, with many seeking shelter in overcrowded camps and neighbouring communities.
Medical workers in affected areas said hospitals were struggling to treat injured civilians due to shortages of medical supplies, electricity and humanitarian access.
Aid agencies also warned that continued fighting was disrupting food deliveries and increasing the risk of hunger and disease outbreaks among displaced populations.
The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF began in April 2023 following tensions over plans to integrate both forces into a unified national military.
Since then, thousands of people have been killed while millions have been displaced across Sudan, making it one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.
International organisations and regional leaders have repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire, but fighting has continued in several parts of the country.
