Uganda deploys troops to Congo border
Uganda has deployed additional troops to its western border region following clashes involving suspected rebel fighters near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Military officials said the deployment followed intelligence reports of armed group movements in remote border communities.
The Ugandan army confirmed that security forces exchanged gunfire with suspected militants during operations carried out in areas close to the border.
Authorities said the operation was aimed at preventing further attacks on civilians and stopping armed groups from crossing into Ugandan territory.
Residents reported increased military patrols and security checks in several communities following the clashes.
Uganda has repeatedly accused rebel groups operating in eastern DR Congo of carrying out attacks inside Ugandan territory, particularly the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an armed group linked to the Islamic State.
The Ugandan government said joint military operations with Congolese forces would continue as part of regional efforts to combat insurgency and improve border security.
Security analysts warned that continued instability in eastern Congo remained a major threat to neighbouring countries due to the movement of armed groups across porous borders.
