Tunisia Appoint Chaabani on Four-Year Deal

Tunisia have appointed Moin Chaabani as head coach of the national football team on a four-year contract that will run until 2030, the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) announced on Tuesday.

The 45-year-old succeeds French coach Herve Renard, who was appointed on an interim basis to oversee Tunisia’s final two matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Sabri Lamouchi was dismissed following a 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the team’s opening group match.

In a statement, the FTF said its executive committee had approved the appointment of Chaabani and his coaching staff as part of a long-term strategy aimed at rebuilding the national team after a disappointing World Cup campaign.

Chaabani joins the Carthage Eagles after a successful spell with Moroccan club Renaissance de Berkane, where he guided the side to its first domestic league title during the 2024-25 season and won the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup. He left the club earlier this month after completing one of the most successful periods in its history.

Before moving to Morocco, Chaabani enjoyed considerable success with Esperance of Tunisia, leading the club to two CAF Champions League titles and establishing himself as one of the region’s most accomplished coaches at club level. His appointment marks his first role as coach of a senior national team.

Tunisia lost all three matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, suffering defeats to Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands to finish their campaign without a point. Chaabani’s first competitive assignment will be the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where Tunisia have been drawn alongside Uganda, Libya and Botswana in Group H.
