Ethiopia Begins Construction of New Industrial Smart City

Ethiopia has begun construction of a new industrial smart city aimed at boosting manufacturing, technology and foreign investment in the country.

Government officials said the project, located outside Addis Ababa, would include industrial parks, residential areas, technology hubs and modern transport infrastructure.

Authorities described the development as part of Ethiopia’s long-term economic modernisation strategy designed to create jobs and increase industrial production.

The government said the project would focus on sectors including textile production, technology services, renewable energy and logistics.

Officials also stated that the smart city would include environmentally friendly infrastructure and digital systems to improve energy management, transportation and public services.

Construction companies and international investors from Asia and the Middle East are expected to participate in different phases of the project.

Economic analysts said Ethiopia continues to position itself as one of Africa’s fastest-growing manufacturing and investment destinations despite ongoing economic and security challenges in parts of the country.

The government expects the project to attract both local and foreign businesses once initial construction phases are completed.
