 Ex-Ghana MP wounded in shooting incident

Former Ghanaian lawmaker Sarah Adwoa Safo has sustained a gunshot wound during an incident at a residence in Kwabenya, in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region.

The Ghana Police Service said the former Dome-Kwabenya member of parliament was injured on June 21 after armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms.

Police said Adwoa Safo sustained a wound to her left ear. Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks.

According to preliminary police findings, a ceremony was taking place at the residence when Adwoa Safo arrived and requested access to the premises.

Officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate responded to a distress call and went to the scene.

Police said six private security guards had been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Investigators recovered five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of ammunition and communication equipment.

The suspects and recovered items were transferred to Police Headquarters to assist the investigation.

It was not immediately clear whether police had identified all those involved in the shooting.
