Mauritania Signs Major Green Hydrogen Agreement

Mauritania has signed a major green hydrogen development agreement as the country moves to expand renewable energy production and attract foreign investors.

Government officials said the agreement involves international energy companies expected to develop large-scale hydrogen projects powered by solar and wind energy in desert regions of the country.

Authorities stated that the project would support electricity production, industrial development and energy exports to international markets.

Mauritania said the initiative forms part of broader plans to position the country as a major renewable energy producer in Africa.

Energy experts noted that Mauritania’s strong wind conditions and large desert landscape make it suitable for renewable energy projects.

The government also said the agreement was expected to create jobs and improve infrastructure in areas linked to the project.

Several African countries have increased investments in green hydrogen and renewable energy as global demand for cleaner energy sources continues to grow.
